Art in Solitude: Calm Environments and the Power of Quiet

Jade Martin

Places, where one can hear themselves think, are powerful. It's where creativity blossoms and your inner artist truly thrives.

This is something I knew about but didn't understand until I could escape my routine life and head to a family cottage for a few days.

This place had been a spontaneous destination for my family – I packed my art supplies (almost all of my art supplies) and headed off to a new spot. With my little dog Ollie, my sister, dad, and mom, we set out to enjoy ourselves and appreciate a slower pace of living. I was incredibly grateful to have this time to slow down and take a half-day break from my full-day job. I know this is not the case for everyone, so I feel very lucky to have gotten this opportunity.

Some beautiful snapshots from my trip ☀ My dog, Ollie (wire fox terrier mix) had a blast!

So, no, this blog post is not about going the furthest from your home and seeing far-off destinations for creative discovery. I mean, it sounds incredible, don't get me wrong, but I hope that my short story inspired you to find solitude anywhere. Maybe that will be in a nearby park, where you sit down and do some slow-paced sketching. Or, maybe you will be inspired to go on a walk around the block and see nature up close. I hope you have the space and time to have some time in quiet, and you can recognize its magic first-hand.
